Draw Sweep

Draw path, and auto-Sweep terrain along it.

Useful to quickly make e.g. road embankments, without requiring geometric input.

Type:  Draw, Shape
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > Draw > Draw Sweep

What is Sweep Draw?

Draw Sweep works like Draw followed by a Sweep. Draw creates a path to be swept. Sweep forces the terrain to conform to the path, with a blend.

The difference is that while Sweep requires a pre-existing edgepath as input, Draw Sweep is more interactive.

Draw Sweep enables you to manually draw the path to be swept, while in the tool itself. This can be useful when you need a quick result or when you will not need to reuse the input path.

Clone Path

You can save out your previewed Sweep path as reusable geometry. To clone it, right-click, then pick Geometrify Drawing.

Discover Tools-on-Space

To help you draw in space, Landshape includes the concept of Tools on Space.

Tools on space let you control your output by inferencing positions in space which otherwise may be hard to hit.

Two parts of tools-on-space are absolute Heights and Guideplane.

Accurately Control Heights

Draw Sweep and some other Draw tools show a small Height label. The Height label should show the absolute Height of the currently picked point or plane. As you move the mouse pointer across different targets, the label should update. To control the height, simply type the height into the VCB, and hit Enter.

Accurately Draw on Plane

Draw Sweep offers a guideplane. The guideplane is a virtual and temporary level reference plane. When you are drawing, it lets you gracefully infer to it, without obstructing the view.

To activate Guideplane while in a Draw tool, simply hit Up or Down arrow. Alternatively, you can right-click, and activate it via the context menu.

You can control the height of the guideplane and the

Read Statusbar and VCB for Details

  • When Draw Sweep is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
  • The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Draw Sweep commit, try typing different values and hit Enter to control the Draw Sweep effect.
  • To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Draw Sweep on it. Don't be afraid to play around!
