Learn Landshape — View. View Zone Bounds

View Zone Bounds

Toggle terrain material border visibility.

Useful to make edges between adjacent groundtypes more distinct.

Type:  View, Style
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > View > View Zone Bounds

Visualise Zone Bounds

Outlining your zones with edges makes materials more salient, and your model more readable.

Working with Zone Bounds

Most operations that edit Zone bounds, like Zone and Zone Brush, will automatically apply the current View Zone Bounds state.

If the View Zone Bounds toggle is on, edges along newly created Zone Bounds will be visible.

If the View Zone Bounds toggle is off, edges along newly created Zone Bounds will not be visible.

You can see the current View state in the Landshape View toolbar, in the Top menu, and in the context menu.

Save Zone Bound State per Model

Currently, the Zone Bounds View state is saved per model.

Note that currently, this works a bit different compared to other View states in Landshape. While Landshape attempts to scan the model to synchronise view states with terrain states for most

Troubleshooting Zone Bounds

🧐 Cannot see your Zone Bounds? Zone Bounds will show only if your current Sketchup style shows edges. Turn on edges, and try toggling View Zone Bounds off and on again.

😕 Did your terrain Zone Bounds get out-of-sync with your View Zone Bounds state? To synchronise states, you can manually toggle View Zone Bounds off and on again. Alternatively, run Rebuild View. Rebuild View will synchronise all active view items with your current terrain.

When Use View Zone Bounds?

Let's say you have a landscape model with, for instance, gently undulating pathways across zones of grass, adjacent to some other groundtypes, and you have attentively embedded their Zone Bounds, and then Zoned these areas with different materials.

Here, try turning on Zone Bounds. Note how your model becomes easier to read, and looks more approachable.

Still, sometimes, your model looks better without Zone Bounds. This tends to be the case especially when groundtype materials already are very distinct, when you find yourself with hundreds or thousands of material zones, and individual zone features become quite small. In this case, models tend to look better without hard Zone Bounds.
