Set
Move selection vertically, by distance or to Height. Selection Axes determine Height.
Useful to accurately elevate geometry. Elevate relative other geometry, or to an absolute Height. Set works similar to Move, but along blue only.
Type: PrepMenu: Extensions > Landshape > Prep > Set
Input
- Non-terrain containers.
- Raw geometry.
- Set absolute height by prefixing typed VCB value with a = sign.
Elevation Tips
- A common usecase is to set and harmonize elevations for control geometry. For instance, you can set a plateau at a specific vertical distance from another plateau.
- Once you have your control groups at correct elevations, you may use your control groups as input for e.g. Flare and other commands.
- For start height, Set will use Axes.
- If you have selected a single container, Set will start from its Axes.
- If you have selected multiple containers whose Axes are at different heights, Set will use the bottommost Axes.
- If you have selected raw geometry, Set will use the geometry's implicit bounding box. This means that you get the Axes as if you had pre-grouped it.
- You may elevate selected raw edgework. This can be useful to elevate measured points or isocurves.
- When terrain modelling, Set height has advantages compared with Sketchup's built-in Move tool. Compared with Move, Set frees you from having to pick a start point, from using your pointer to begin a movement direction, and from using arrows to lock movement along blue axis. Additionally, Set enables you to in a simpler way set your selection to an absolute height relative to your model Datum.
Read Statusbar and VCB for Details
- When Set is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
- The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Set commit, try typing different values and hit
Enterto control the Set effect. - To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Set on it. Don't be afraid to play around!
