Quake
Dramatize terrain randomly, within selection border.
Create organic height variation in a terrain. Useful to quickly whip up plots to befriend tools. Or for artistic purposes.
Type: Pick, ShapeMenu: Extensions > Landshape > Pick > Quake
Input
- 1 or more raw faces, e.g. in a Siteplan.
- 1 or several groups with a well-defined border. For instance a face, or a simple closed edgeloop.
Operation
Direct
- Pre-select valid input, per above.
- Run Command.
- To adjust result, type values.
Command is a Pick command.
Quake an Area
Preselect an input mask, then run Quake. This will only quake the local area.
Quake Full Plot
To quickly quake an entire plot, first preselect only the terrain, then run Quake.
Quake from Panel
When you run Quake, Quake will apply several parameters, too many to list in the VCB.
To control all Quake parameters in detail, open the Panel, and find the Quake tab.
Here, you may experiment with different settings, and run Quake consecutively. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Read Statusbar and VCB for Details
- When Command is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
- The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Command commit, try typing different values and hit
Enterto control the Command effect. - To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Command on it. Don't be afraid to play around!

Quake is mainly intended for artistic and expressive use. Perhaps you can use it as starting point for a fantasy landscape? Let your imagination take command. Embrace playfulness!
