Learn Landshape — View. View Contour

View Contour

Toggle terrain elevation isoline visibility.

Useful to understand elevations in your model.

Type:  View
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > View > View Contour

Control Contour Density

You can control Contour spacing in the VCB.

Rebuild Contours after Reshaping Terrain

In Landshape, Contours and other view items do not automatically adapt when terrain is re-elevated.

To realign your contours to your current terrain, do one of two things:

  • Toggle Contours on and off, manually.
  • Run Rebuild View. Rebuild View will synchronise all active view items with your current terrain.

Play with Styling

Contours are output on a separate tag, "Landshape Contour". To style your contours, try setting a different Dash style to the tag named Landshape Contour.

Control Visibility per Scene

Since Contours live on a separate tag of their own, "Landshape Contour", you can control Contour visibility per Sketchup scene. The same is true for several other View items, but not all.

Analyse Terrain

Contours encapsulate many interesting properties in your terrain.

For instance, you can assess whether a road is correctly levelled by turning on contours.

Contours start at your Model Datum.

Read Statusbar and VCB for Details

  • When View Contour is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
  • The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a View Contour commit, try typing different values and hit Enter to control the View Contour effect.
  • To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try View Contour on it. Don't be afraid to play around!
