Drape on Path
Project selected edgegroup down to lower selected edgegroup.
Useful to fit e.g. an irregular 2D roadplan or siteplan onto a smoothly elevated targed edgepath. Target is the lowermost edgepath's imaginary lateral extension.
Type: PrepMenu: Extensions > Landshape > Prop > Drape on Path
Input
- 2 groups containing edgepaths, of which 1 group is positioned higher, 1 group is positioned lower. The higher is draped onto the lower.
Understanding Drape Edge
Drape on Path is a Prep command, a utility command for editing non-terrain geometry. The draped result you may then reuse as control groups in other Landshape commands.
- A common usecase is to design an irregular roadplan on a slope.
- Typically, the target is a simple edgepath, and the source to-be-draped is more complex.
- Since the target is an edge path, it is often easier to attain lateral cohererence in the result, as compared with draping onto a full 3D terrain surface.
- Since the target is the imagined lateral extension of a path, in can be difficult to visualise the results. To understand how Drape on Path works, try experimenting. Try draping a flat 2D roadplan onto a gently rising centerline.
- To make a target edgepath slope gently, use the Even Path Slope command.
Parameters
- Drape on Path subdivides the projected result, using active Resolution. Currently, this parameter is not exposed in the VCB.
An Experimental Command
Drape on Path is an experimental command. It may not always behave as expected.
