Face
Draw a new face in every empty flat edgeloop in selection.
Utility tool for preparing geometry for use as e.g. control groups. Face ensures that all your flat closed edges input has faces.
Type: PrepMenu: Extensions > Landshape > Prep > Face
Input
- One or more groups containing closed flat edgepaths not filled with faces.
Face these Tips
- A typical usecase is to add faces to edgework imported from e.g. external CAD sources.
- Use Face as a preprocess for control groups. Then, you may use your enfaced groups as input for e.g. Zone and other commands.
- Face works best on groups containing raw geometry. Also, you may enface selected raw edgework.
- Since Face only works on planar edgeloops, first Smash your input, then Face it.
- Leverage mini-workflows by combining commands. Let us say you have a siteplan. But it suffers from wonky geometry, because it has been imported from a CAD file. You may then first Smash to flatten, then Clean to simplify the edgework, then Face, then paint the faces. The result can be a robust siteplan, a reusable controlgrup.
Read Statusbar and VCB for Details
- When Face is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
- The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Face commit, try typing different values and hit
Enterto control the Face effect. - To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Face on it. Don't be afraid to play around!
