Smooth Path Plan
Smoothen selected edgepath in Plan only.
Useful to increase the lateral coherence of a path. It may then be used as input for e.g. terrain pathways.
Type: Prep, PathMenu: Extensions > Landshape > Prep > Smooth Path Plan
Input
- One raw edgepath, open or closed.
- One or more groups with 1 continous edgepath.
Increase Lateral Coherence
- This command makes the curvature of a connected series of edges less irregular, as seen in plan view.
- This command intentionally ignores positions in height. It keeps all Z coordinates fixed.
- Pathsmoothing repartitions edges in your selection. Adding vertices increases plasticity for smoother results.
Usecase: Smooth Terrain Modelling
The Smooth commands are Prep commands. This is because path smoothing is typically used in a preparatory design stage.
Edgepaths are often used to drive accurate results in the terrain.
However, incoming 3D edgepaths often suffer from jaggedness. They may have inadvertent kinks, or various other unwanted irregularities.
Edgepaths are often sourced externally. Other users may not care about smoothness. Or, paths are irregular simply because it was hard to draw them smoothly in the first place.
To make your edgepaths smoother, select the edges you wish to smooth, then run one or more of Landshape's Smooth commands.
Once your input edges are smooth, you can use them to make your terrain results smoother as well.
A common workflow is using smooth edgepaths as input for the powerful command Grade.
Troubleshooting
- Getting unexpected results? Try experimenting with different VCB input values. Try simplifying your input, and only select something simple as input. Try isolating the input in a separate model file.
