Clone Surface

Create copy of terrain faces, limited by mask.

Useful to extract terrain elevation, triangulation, and materials, for reuse. Keeps a richer set of properties than other clone commands. Use an input mask to limit clone to a certain terrain area.

😎 Pro Tip – To clone an entire terrain plot, preselect only one Landshape terrain plot, then run Clone Terrain.

Using Clones

Clones are not terrain

If you clone a part of your Landshape terrain surface, the resulting clone is not terrain. Landshape will not recognize a terrain clone as terrain. A clone is just ordinary Sketchup geometry.

The purpose of cloning terrain is to reuse the clone as input for other Landshape commands.

For instance, if you clone a patch of landshape terrain, you can put it on a hidden tag. At a later point in time, when your terrain has another shape and other zones (ground types), you may turn on the tag holding the cloned patch. The clone is still in its original position. Now, you can select the clone, and use it to Fit and Zone your terrain. In this way, local parts of your terrain may be used as a backup-and-restore mechanism, or as a quick way to compare different terrain options.

Note

Currently, the terrain surface clone may not carry over source edge format.
