Drape Face

Project selection faces to terrain surface, in new group.

Useful to create areas that protrude above the terrain. Examples include sidewalks, crops, and snow.

Type:  Prep
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > Prep > Drape Face

Input

  • One or more groups containing one face.

Color Containers

If your source container has a material, the drape container will receive the same material.

Trim by Rim

If your drapes stick out of the terrain sideways, here is a makeshift trick. First, activate Skirt. Then, select your drapes. Finally, run:
Prop > Cut by Skirt
This should remove excess drape.

Drapes are not Terrain

Currently, drapes are not considered part of the terrain. They do not count toward terrain volume or surovey properties.

Note

Please note that currently, Drape Face is very primitive.

Currently, there is no way to automatically redrape faces once you have reshaped the terrain underlying existing drapes. To redrape, currently, you need to manually delete the drapings, reselect the drape source, and run Drape again.

Also, currently, Drape Face does not support faces with inner loops, or multi-face selections.

Holygon is planning to improve and generalize Drape Face.
