Getting Started with Landshape

Are you new to Landshape? To get started, you should install Sketchup and Landshape. Then, you can start experimenting with the tools and features.:

1. Install Sketchup

Sketchup desktop 2023 or later installed. Landshape is designed to follow the system requirements of Sketchup Desktop.

  • The latest Sketchup version is recommended. All Landshape features should work on Sketchup versions 2023 and newer.
  • Landshape works on both Windows and MacOS. Landshape is not available on the web version of Sketchup, since it does not support extensions.
  • A three-button scroll-wheel mouse.

2. Install Landshape

The latest Landshape installed. Get it from e.g. Holygon Downloads.

  • Landshape is available as a free trial. For commercial or continuous use, you need to order a free or paid license. Get it from Holygon Shop.
  • Once you have downloaded the extension, install it in Sketchup like any other extension.

3. Start Experimenting

Patience and a willingness to experiment. Landshape is a powerful tool. The best way to learn is to try things out, and see what works for you.

  • You can learn the basics in a few hours, but mastering the tools and patterns will take longer. Be kind to yourself.
  • Open an new empty sandbox project and familiarize yourself with the interface.
  • Start with the Landshape Start toolbar. It contains the most important commands for getting started. Wait with other toolbars until you are comfortable with the basics.
  • Make a first terrain plot: Click the Plot tool icon, then hold Alt and Doubleclick in the model. This will create a new quaked terrain plot in the model. To vary the quake, hit Enter right after plotting. Requake until you get something interesting.
  • Use this randomly varied terrain plot to practice tools and features.
  • Start playing around with simple ideas.
  • Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Experimenting is a great way to learn and discover new features.
  • When you feel more comfortable, gradually explore more complex features. Turn on another toolbar, and try out their commands. Or explore commands via the top or context menu.
  • In General, the View toolbar is very easy to use, since it mostly contains toggles. Brushes are also fairly intuitive. The Main toolbar holds the most powerful and somewhat more complex tools.

4. Learn from Others

There are plenty of in-extension and online resources to learn from. Set aside a few hours of quiet space to discover and befriend Landshape's' tools.
