Spawn

Copy selected containers onto subsequently picked target faces, edges, or points; and set parameters

Preselect source containers. Then, run Spawn. Then, pick target shapes containing faces, or edges, or points. Hit Enter to Spawn.

Menu:  Extensions > Placify > Main > Spawn

Spawn Sources

The source must be containers, that is, components or group. Components are recommended.

To control the proportion of spawned containers, change the proportions in your source selection. If you preselect a source with 10 trees of type A and 1 tree of type B, the output should be roughly proportional to this.

Spawn Targets

Currently, you can only spawn onto containers, not onto raw geometry.

Once you have selected a target container, Spawn will analyze its geometry, and spawn in one of three ways:

  1. Faces - Spawn a mass, using parameters Density and falloff.
This can be useful for massing, e.g. for woods.

Start simple. Draw some faces with the Placify Face Brush, and use them as targets.

  2. Edgepaths - Spawn an item array, using parameter Spacing.
This can be useful for avenues of trees, or lamp posts along a street.

  3. Points - Spawn on every point, ignoring parameters.

This is useful to force sources to appear at a certain position.
You can easily add points via menu:
Placify > Add > Point
Remember to put all your points inside a separate group before using them as target for Spawn.

To quickly create a freeform target face to spawn on, try using Face Brush. It allows you to paint a flat blobby face, ideal for organic footprints. This face output is pregrouped.

Autodrop to Landshape terrain

If you have Landshape terrain above or below your spawn target, Spawn will autodrop source items to the terrain. Note that you currently cannot use Landshape terrain as a target.

Parameters

Density

Density controls how tightly packed instances spawned on faces will be. Try experimenting with values. Default is 100.

Density applies only to target faces specifically. Not to edges or points.

Spacing

Spacing controls the distance between instances spawned on edges.

Spacing applies only to target edge paths specifically. Not to faces or points.

Falloff or Blend

Falloff lets you add a gradual diminishing of the source size towards the end of the target area. To count as an area, the target has to have a face.

Falloff can be useful e.g. when adding wild vegetation. Often, the outskirts of woods have specimens of diminished size.

Autoshift

Hit Alt to toggle autoshifting the spawned output. This is useful to create organic variation.
