Smooth

Reduce terrain sharpness and grain, within selection.

Useful to remove local elevation artifacts. Smooth will not affect topology.

Type:  Pick, Shape
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > Main > Smooth

Input

  • One or several groups with a well-defined perimeter.
    For instance a face, or a simple closed loop.

Operation

Direct

  1. Pre-select valid inputs, per above.
  2. Run Smooth.
  3. To adjust result, type values.

Smooth is a Pick command.

Read Statusbar and VCB for Details

  • When Smooth is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
  • The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Smooth commit, try typing different values and hit Enter to control the Smooth effect.
  • To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Smooth on it. Don't be afraid to play around!

To quickly smooth an entire plot, first preselect only terrain, then run Smooth.
