Keep

Preserve terrain inside selection bounds, and erase any terrain outside.

Useful to trim away terrain. Will remove any terrain plots that are not contiguous with the kept plot. Best used at the end of the workflow.

Type:  Pick
Menu:  Extensions > Landshape > Main > Keep

Input

  • A group containing a simple face.
  • A group containing a well-formed perimeter.

What Is Keep?

Keep lets you remove terrain. Select an input group, and run Keep. Keep will remove any Landshape outside your input group area.

In spite of its name, Keep is a destructive command.

Keep with care. If you have kept too much, Undo.

Keep works like an inverted version of Cut.

Prefer Rectangular Footprints

Currently, it is best Landshape practise to create, edit and model your terrain in plots that have a rectangular footprint.

Cut Irregular Footprints Last

Do you need to use a plot with a non-rectangular or irregular footprint? This can look great visually.

Best practise is currently to make non-rectangular footprints last in your editing pipeline. One reason currently, it is difficult to grow the footprint of non-rectangular terrain plots.

In future Landshape updates, Holygon plans to improve footprint workflow flexibility.

Explore Artistic Options

Technically, Landshape editing should generally work well also on more or less any footprint shape.

Feeling brave? Break free of the regular mold, and for artistic effect, try a new small Landshape project on a circular or freeform-footprint terrain plot.
