Understanding the Draw Tools
Draw is a classic tool. Use Draw to create edgepaths. Use edgepaths as input for other commands.
Many terrain control groups start with Draw.
You can control the exact elevation of each point in the edgepath. Type the parameter Height in the VCB to do so.
Why Draw?
Draw works similar to Sketchup's best tools – the classic Line tool. However, Draw is specialized for working on terrain. It has several advantages. For instance, in Draw, you can:
- Paint a path by simply dragging your cursor across the terrain.
- Control the height of individual path points as you draw them, by typing in the VCB.
- Close the path into an area loop by holding Ctrl and doubleclickng. Closed area loops are useful as masks in other tools, such as Fit.
- Automatically group path output.
Read Statusbar and VCB for Details
- When Draw is active, Sketchup's statusbar will show the current state and options. Read the statusbar carefully.
- The VCB and its label shows any current parameters. Right after a Draw commit, try typing different values and hit
Enter
to control the Draw effect. - To explore the tool, open a new sandbox model. Plot-quake a random terrain. Then try Draw on it. Don't be afraid to play around!
